Career Quest offers GW students an exclusive opportunity to gain an up-close and personal experience with leading organizations in major cities, including New York City, Los Angeles, and San Francisco...and introducing Seattle, and Chicago! 

The program provides students with an opportunity to:

  • hone their informational interviewing and networking skills with employers
  • learn how an organization works and about their job and internship opportunities
  • hear from employers about their professional journeys and the  pathways they followed to career success
  • connect with GW alumni in major metropolitan areas
  • explore and experience the culture and pulse of exciting cities, such as New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, and Chicago

GW Career Quest Program & Application Information

Eligibility

Who is eligible to participate?

This exclusive opportunity is open to current GW undergraduate students in the graduating class of 2019 or 2020 as well as graduate students.  Your primary designation must be "student" in order to be eligible to submit an application.  GW faculty, staff, and exchange students are ineligible.  Distance learners are encouraged to apply; however, all students are required to participate in the entirety of Career Quest.

Are students from all majors/degree programs eligible?

Yes, undergraduate and graduate students who are currently enrolled full-time or part-time in any degree program at George Washington University during the treks are eligible.

Are there GPA requirements?

All applicants should be in good academic standing.  Participation is contingent upon the student maintaining a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.

Do I need to be in good disciplinary standing with the university to be considered?

Yes.  The selection process will involve a review of academic and disciplinary conduct records maintained by the Office of Student Rights & Responsibilities.

Are graduating students eligible?


Yes. GW undergraduate and graduate students who will continue as matriculating full-time or part-time students in a degree program in the fall of 2018 are eligible.

Are new incoming students eligible?


No. Only current GW students in graduating classes 2019 and 2020 as well as graduate students at George Washington University are eligible.

Are International students eligible?

Yes, international students with a visa status of F1 or J1 may apply.

Application Process

How do I apply?

Students must submit an application and supporting documents (unofficial transcript, resume, and optional financial aid form) through myGW. Applicants will also need to complete an interview. 

Summer 2018 (Seattle and Chicago) application submissions accepted Monday, March 5, 2018 -  Monday, March 19, 2018 at 11:59PM EST. 

Selection Process

What are the selection criteria for program participants?

- student's eligibility

- demonstration of the applicant’s career and academic goals

- quality of writing and interview responses

Who will be selecting the candidates?

A committee consisting of members of the Center for Career Services staff.

When will applicants be notified?

Final selections will be made by Monday, April 16, 2018

How will applicants be notified?

Applicants will be notified of their status via their gwu.edu email address.

Program Fees & Expectations

Program Fees

Please note: GW Career Quest covers lodging, transportation from airport to hotel,transportation to and from site visits, and breakfast and lunch.

  • Summer 2018 - Chicago (Sunday, August  19—Wednesday, August 22, 2018): There will be a refundable deposit of $125 due at the time of acceptance to the GW Career Quest Program. Students cover their own transportation to and from Chicago, transportation to the airport at the close of the program and all dinners. If you believe you may need financial assistance to help pay for your program fees, please complete the Financial Need form when submitting your application. 
  • Summer 2018 - Seattle (Sunday, August 19—Thursday, August 23, 2018): There will be a refundable deposit of $125 due at the time of acceptance to the GW Career Quest Program. Students cover their own transportation to and from Seattle, transportation to the airport at the close of the program and all dinners. If you believe you may need financial assistance to help pay for your program fees, please complete the Financial Need form when submitting your application.

Failure to meet program requirements will result in a $125 penalty fee.

Program Expectations

All program participants for GW Career Quest will be expected to do the following as participants in the program:

  1. Complete the Program Acceptance Form. The link to the Program Acceptance Form will be forwarded to each program participant selected by the committee.  The form will include information on emergency contacts, the travel itinerary for travel to and from the specific trek, and program and payment options.
  2. Attend all mandatory meetings prior to departure.
  3. Abide by the GW Code of Student Conduct 
  4. Complete post-program evaluation and blog post. After the end of the program participants agree to:
  • Submit a post to be featured in a Center for Career Services blog. 
  • Submit a GW Career Quest evaluation.
  • Participate in potential Q&A sessions, donor-recognition events, etc. as requested, to promote the GW Career Quest program to future applicants.
