Application Process

How to Apply:

Submit an online KACIF Application Form. (NOTE: The link will only be active during the Application Period. Please see below for dates.) The following documents will need to be submitted with your application form:

  • Knowledge in Action Career Internship (KACIF) Application
    • Contains 3 sections: Application Questions, Personal Essay Questions, and Proposed Budget for Internships
  • Resume or Curriculum Vitae
  • GW Transcript or Letter from the Office of the Registrar
  • Internship Verification

The KACIF Application, Resume or Curriculum Vitae, and GW Transcript or Letter from the Office of the Registrar will make-up the packet that will be submitted to reviewers for potential funding.

Upon completion of the application items, there are two sections of data collection questions about student information and internship information. These questions along with the Internship Verification will be reviewed for eligibility.

Knowledge in Action Career Internship (KACIF) Application

The KACIF Application includes 3 sections: Application Questions, Essay Questions, and Proposed Budget for Internships. Please note that you cannot write past the space provided in each text field. Any responses that go beyond the text box will be cut off upon submission and will not be seen by the reviewers.

For the Proposed Budget for Internships, there are several funding opportunities from the George Washington University that, if accepted, will make you ineligible to accept KACIF funding. Please list all sources of potential funding, including any other scholarships you may receive at the same time (even if you aren't sure you've received the scholarship or not), on your Budget Template. The Knowledge in Action Career Internship Fund grant can be held concurrently with any other GW merit awards, although these awards/sources should be included in the budget section of your application.

Resume or Curriculum Vitae (PDF format)

The Center for Career Services offers several resources for writing your resume. We need you to remove all contact and identifying information from the submitted resume for our "blind" application review process. To do that, you can convert your Word document to a PDF and use the Adobe Redact Tool.

GW Transcript or Letter from the Office of the Registrar (PDF format)

If you are in your first semester, you may submit an enrollment verification certificate which you can obtain through the GWeb portal. Navigate from the Student Records & Registration Menu to the Student Records Information Menu. Select "Obtain an Enrollment Verification" and follow the steps for current enrollment. You can download the certificate instantaneously.

If you have completed one or more semesters, you must submit an unofficial transcript. In GWeb, navigate from the Student Records & Registration Menu to the Student Records Information Menu. Select "Transcripts" and "View Unofficial Transcript." Print this page as a PDF and submit it.

IMPORTANT: As the application review process is a "blind" review, please redact all contact and identifying information from the enrollment certificate or unofficial transcript. Self-prepared transcripts will not be accepted.

Internship Verification

There are two methods of submission for this requirement:

  • The first option is to fill out the Internship Verification & Description Letter (PDF) document and submit it.
  • The second option is to submit a signed contract or offer letter, written in English, which states that the internship has been offered and accepted, includes the start/end dates of the internship, total number of hours to be worked and that it is unpaid. The contract or letter must be typed on official company letterhead, or, if it is in the form of an email, must be sent from an official company email address.

NOTE: You must update and verify your address listed in the GWeb system before you apply. If you're selected for an award, your funding will be processed using your Banner address. Any errors with your address will cause a delay in the disbursement of your funding.

NOTE: Due to the amount of time that is required for each application to be vetted, reviewed at least twice, and for payments to be processed and delivered before recipients commence their internship, it is imperative that we strictly adhere to the established timelines. Thus, no extensions can be made on the application deadlines. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
