Military and Veteran Student Support

The Center for Career Services provides information, resources and assistance to help support the successful transition of GW's military and veteran students from GW to a new career path.

How can Career Services help me?

Whether you are at the beginning, in the middle or almost at the completion of your degree program, Career Services can assist you with such issues as understanding how your major affects your job search, finding an appropriate internship or part-time job, preparing your resume and other documents to reflect the transferability of your military-related skills and developing the best strategies for you to connect with employers. Starting early will provide you an edge in the job search market.

What should I expect?

Our services include career consulting by appointment (in-person, by phone or Skype); access to online job postings (full-time and part-time); workshop sessions on resume/letter writing, interviewing techniques and job search strategies; opportunities to connect with employers during career fairs, industry expos, on-campus interviews and other employer events.

There seems to be a lot of military-related recruiting available so do I really need to connect with Career Services?

There is indeed good attention paid by employers to military and veteran hiring, however, the employment market is still highly competitive and it is important for you to use career services to determine your employment options so that your job search is strategic, and to become well prepared to help an employer understand your transferable skills.

Where is Career Services?

GW’s hybrid model for University Career Services combines a central career services center with school-based career centers and you may access the particular center based on your school enrollment.
